Practice Inspiration
Please note: there will be no formal meeting in August but there will be writing practice.
Writing Practice is about “live” writing – moving your pen across the paper, putting down word after word after word until the glimmer of a story arrives, or a character emerges, or a plot line unfolds. This type of writing can shake loose ideas and doing it in a group can take away some of the isolation that you can feel as a writer and connect you to other writers in the community.
It goes like this: You arrive with pen and paper. A prompt/writing cue will be given.
You write for a set period of time.
Repeat.
There will be no feedback on the actual writing but there will be time at the end for sharing and a discussion of the process. Each session will be different in terms of focus, theme etc.
Flex your creative writing muscles by participating in a “live” writing experience.
Writing Practice will take place at the Sooke Public Library beginning at 6:30 pm on the following dates :
Tues. July 28 (magazine area)
Wed. August 19 (reference area)
Wed, August 26 (reference area)
Please plan to be there on time for the best start and don’t forget your notebook and pens. Limited seating available. If there is enough demand we will search out a larger meeting space. If you have any questions please contact us.
This is a free service from Sooke Writers’ Collective though donations are gratefully accepted.
Sooke Writers’ Collective is a not-for-profit group. We provide support, connection, inspiration and encouragement to writers at all levels of development in the Sooke region through membership services which include meetings, writing practice, workshops and a student writing contest. Proceeds of sales & donations go to future developments such as the EMCS student writing contests, a 2016 anthology and writing events in the community.
Give the gift of words AND support your local writers and writer-students by purchasing an anthology – it’s available at our table at the Sooke Night Market, online or at local Sooke stores.
