Sooke Types, our third anthology was launched at the Reading Room Cafe on Thursday, May 19th.
The kick off was led by award winning poet Wendy Morton reading her poem “Equinox” from the anthology. Members Linda Green Abraham, Jenny Boklaschuk, dl clay, Tatjana Darling, AY Dorsey, Doni Eve, Rene Low, Paulina Pallot and newest member (a half hour old) Barry Whiting read from works in progress or anthology pieces.
A big part of our drive to create a print anthology is our annual EMCS Student Writing Contest. Now in its ninth year, students from Edward Milne Community School write “live” using a list of prompts for inspiration. For the last three years the winners have been published in our anthology and receive cash prizes.
This year’s winners:
Poetry: Julia Hensley
Junior Fiction: 1st place – Michael Ross
Junior Fiction: 2nd place – Dawson deWeerd
Senior Fiction: 1st place – Makayla Scharf
Senior Fiction: 2nd place – Nick Gakena
